Our Mission
Shared Earth Schoolhouse is an inclusive homeschool community dedicated to cultivating environmental stewardship, empathy, and collective care. We believe learning thrives in community. Through shared learning, environmental awareness, and cooperative relationships, we empower young people to understand their place in an interconnected world and to care for both their community and the planet. We honor diverse perspectives and shared responsibility, fostering a learning environment where young people grow rooted in place, guided by curiosity, and committed to a more just and sustainable future.
We trade perfection for possibility and structure for serendipity. Here, students take chances, chase wild ideas, and find magic in the mess.
We hope this community will become a close-knit crew of kiddos, parents, educators, & community members that gather in the city and nature to inspire and mentor a new generation. Together, we guide kids through hands-on discovery, bold ideas, and the kind of creativity that only happens when you’re outside, unplugged, and surrounded by people who believe in your spark.
● Our Mission & Philosophy
We believe education is a collective effort. Families, educators, and students contribute to the care of our community, our learning spaces, and one another.
This is why we emphasize trying to stay within the Twin Cities when we look for locations, small businesses, or skill share folks. We want to lean in and build that hyperlocal community while supporting small businesses and getting to know our neighbors better.
Our Principles
● Shared Responsibility
● Environmental Stewardship
We foster respect and care for the natural world through hands-on learning, place-based experiences, and thoughtful engagement with our urban environment.
For example, we emphasize visiting a CSA that rips up front yards to build gardens in the city, and that’s a perfect example of how we want the kids to see a blend of green spaces with city life. Perhaps a little belief in Solarpunk lives within us.
● Curiosity & Wonder
We honor curiosity as a driving force for learning. Students are encouraged to ask questions, take risks, explore ideas, and learn through experience—even when outcomes are uncertain.
● Belonging
We create a welcoming community where all families are valued and respected. Diverse identities, perspectives, and learning styles are not only included—they strengthen our shared learning. We do not tolerate hate, discrimination, intolerance, or stereotypes within this group.
● Community Connection
Our city is an extension of our classroom. We value relationships with local spaces, neighbors, and organizations, and we learn by engaging with the world around us.
● Growth over Perfection
We embrace learning as a process. Mistakes, experimentation, and play are essential to growth, creativity, and confidence.
When enrolling with Shared Earth, all families are sent a Community Agreement form. This is to acknowledge that you understand the Core Principles of Shared Earth, our Mission Statement, and our Vision, and that you agree to be a part of our little slice on this Earth.
All families will receive a survey that lets us gauge what the group’s interests, abilities, and needs are. This allows us to make room for accommodations, adjust meetups, discuss expectations, and get new ideas from joining families.
